Introducing the 1959 Sheesham Zagreb Staunton Chess Pieces, each proudly standing at 3.75 inches. Commonly referred to as the Zagreb 1959 Series, these chess pieces pay homage to the world championship tournament held in Zagreb, Croatia, in the year 1959. This unique design stands out significantly compared to other Staunton chess pieces, especially in the top portion of the three main pieces—the king, queen, and bishop—gracefully embracing the opposition color. The knight is prominently visible, intricately carved with strokes across its vertebrae, almost bowing downwards, reminiscent of other Russian chess piece designs. Meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans based in Amritsar, India, these pieces are heavily weighted to prevent toppling and felted on the base to prevent damage to the playing field. Each piece has been carved from blocks of specified wood, ensuring that every detail and design characteristic of each chess piece is faithfully represented.
